Costco pulls Pekkle baby PJs from stores after complaint that child was scratched

Costco has pulled Pekkleinfant sleepwearfromits Canadianstores. The movefollows a complaint from a parent that achild's skin was scratched by a snap when itdetachedfrom asleeper.

The retail giant said that it received thecomplaint on April 11. "The same day, we pulled the merchandise off the floor. You cannot compromise in these instances," said spokesperson, Ron Damiani.

Costco says it's waiting for word from Health Canada and Lemur Inc., the Montreal-based company that owns the Pekkle line and manufactures the clothing in China.

The company says as soon as it learned about the incident, it voluntarily recalled all Pekkleclothing that could be affected.

"Pekkle is taking this situation very seriously. The company's team is currently conducting a thorough internal investigation to find the sources of the problem," said Lemur spokespersonRaphal Melanonin an email to CBC News. "The safety of our customers is Pekkle's top priority."

Melanon saidthe company is working closely with Costco and HealthCanadaon the issue.

Health Canada has not issued a formal recall and says it willdecide if further action is required after reviewing the case.

Pekkle sleepersare popular with some Canadianparents, and the line's disappearance from Costco has some expressing concern on social media.

"These Pekkle Sleepers have been the only thing that my daughter has worn since she was a baby!!!" posted one parent in a blog. Now, she says, she must find a replacement.
