Homicide unit investigating death of 17-year-old Langley teen

B.C.'s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called to the 17900-block of 99A Avenue of Surrey, B.C., after the body of a 17-year-old male from Langley was found around 5:30 a.m. PT Friday.

In a news release, Surrey RCMPCpl. Sarbjit K SanghasaidIHIT has taken over the investigation.

Surrey RCMP told CBC News in an interview thatpolice believe the death is anisolated incidentand there is no threat to public safety.

Police said IHITdetectives asked that the boy be publicly identified, to aid in people comingforward with information related to the death. The victim's family has been notified of his death, said investigators.

Police said the youth's family reported him missingThursday evening. Before police found him dead, they say he was last seen in the 5900-block of 206 Street in Langley.

Mounties are asking anyone who has information about the teenager and where he wasbetween 9:00 p.m. Thursday and 5:30 a.m. Friday to contact IHIT.

Police did not release any other details about Zhao.
