2 men drown in B.C. incidents

Police have recovered the bodies of two men who drowned in separate incidents near Kelowna and Kaslo, B.C., on Sunday.

Early on Monday searchersrecovered the body of a 24-year-old Surrey man who drowned inOkanagan Lake, officials said.

The man was on holiday in Kelowna with his girlfriend whenthe pairgot into difficultywhile swimming to a boat about 30 metres from the shore in Kelowna's Mission area,at about 7 p.m. PT on Sunday.

"Apparently his shoulder became dislocated and he was unable to get back to the boat," said Capt. John Kelly, of the Kelowna fire department.

"The boat was kind of moving away from them with the current, and when the female tried to assist to get him back to the boat, she was unable to do that and she was getting pulled under as well."

The woman was rescued by a jet skier, but the man could not be found. His identity has not been released.

Kaslo drowning

RCMP inKaslosay the body of a 73-year-old man has been recoverednear a campground atMirror Lake.

"He swam out to a dock which is 100 metres out, dove off, was struggling in the water, and never resurfaced," said Staff Sgt. Daryl Little.

Little says two men tried to help the man, but he went under.
