Homicide team now investigating crash that killed 3 in Surrey, as 2nd 'scene of interest' identified

The single-vehicle collision happened at about 10:30 a.m. PT on the 32 Avenue diversion under the Highway 99 overpass. Police have now identified a second scene of interest in the investigation.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has joined the investigation into a single-vehicle crash that killed three people in Surrey, B.C., on Tuesday morning.

The car crashed into the Highway 99 overpass over the 32 Avenue diversion at about 10:30 a.m.PT,according to a news release. All three people in the vehicle were dead when Mounties arrived.

Surrey RCMP said they called in IHITinvestigators on Tuesday afternoon, and they will be working together on the case.

"When they observed the overall scene inside the vehicle and outside the vehicle, they determined that something wasn't right, that the circumstances around the deaths of the occupants were suspicious," said Cpl. Frank Jang of IHIT.

2nd 'scene of interest'

Police have also identified a second "scene of interest" in the case, according to RCMP, but won't give the exact location. Investigators have released few other details, but say they're in the evidence-gathering phase.

IHIThas said they've tentatively identified the three victims and don't believe the deaths are related to gang violence.

"We don't believe there is any risk to the safety of our community," said Jang.

Investigators have not determined the cause of the crash, and have closed off the area around the scene. Anyone with information is asked to call IHITat 604-551-4448, or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
