4 Vancouver Island officers facing assault charges following IIO investigations

Four RCMP officers in Nanaimo and Parksville are facing assault charges in two separate incidents. (CBC)

Four Vancouver Island RCMP officers are facing assault charges in two separate incidents followinginvestigationsby the Independent Investigations Office.

Const. TimBedard, has been charged with assault causing bodily harm, stemming from an alleged incident inthe Nanaimo detachment cells on June 15, 2014.

Const. Scott Kennedy Jones, Cpl. Michelle ReneLebrun, andConst. Mick Donald White of the Oceanside detachment have been charged with assault with a weapon.

According to the Criminal Justice Branch, the three officers allegedly used excessive force when they pepper sprayed a person inside the Parksville cells on June 10, 2013.

The four officers have been scheduled to appear in court in Nanaimo, B.C. onMarch 17.
