B.C. Day long weekend - things to do

1) Symphony at Jack Poole Plaza

Enjoy a live concert with the Vancouver MetropolitanOrchestra down at the waterfront this weekend featuring award-winning Canadian conductor Maestro Kenneth Hsieh. The program includes excerpts from Bizet's Carmen,Strauss's Die Fledermaus and the grand finale,

The 1812 Overture, is sure to echo through the harbour. Enjoy music with a beautiful backdrop of the sea and mountains and bring your blankets and chairs.

2)Pride Weekend in Vancouver

The parade is for many the highlight of Pride Week, and it attracts crowds of more than 650,000.It all begins at Robson and Thurlow. Get there early and take in the atmosphere and music!

3) Squamish Logger Days

The community is celebrating 100 years with a special edition of Squamish Logger Days. You can see competitors from the world in sports such as Axe Throwing, Birling and Ladies Triple! I'm curious... are you?

4) Brigade Days at Fort Langley

If you love dressing up in period clothing and surrounding yourself with history buffs, this is the place to be this weekend. HBCworkers, Aboriginal traders and trappers will swap stories and on Monday there will be a re-enactment of the "Arrival of the Fur Brigades" by canoe.

5) Powell Street Festival

The annual festival celebratesthe neighbourhood and its Japanese ties. This year it's moving to Alexander and Jackson with some events at the Firehall Arts Centre. The four-block street party will feature a Sumo tournament, martial arts, and lots of fabulous food.
