Long-standing tension between the B.C. Teachers' Federation and the provincial government came to a head this year, after months of job action led to a full-scale strike.
The BCTFbegan its first phase of job action in April, which escalated to a lock-out and full-scale strike in mid-June. The strike continued through the summer and into mid-September.
Much to the relief of parents and students, mediator Vince Ready finally stepped in and helped the two sides reach a negotiated settlement two weeks after the scheduled start of the school year.
But two of the key issues in the dispute, class size and classcomposition, remain the subject of a court battle, which has yet to be heard by B.C.'s Court of Appeal.
