Cathedral Lakes Lodge and the surrounding provincial park were ordered evacuated Wednesday morning because of the Placer Mountain fire.

B.C. Parks has closed the entire Cathedral Provincial Park, about 30 kilometres south ofKeremeos, B.C., and all guests and hikers have been asked to leave immediately.

The lodge and park were also evacuatedlast summer, after a Washington-state wildfire crossed the border.

  • Elsewhere in the province, 132 new wildfires broke out Tuesday, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service, mostly due to lightning strikes.
  • As of Wednesday morning, there were 305 fires across the province that firefighters are responding to.
  • The Snowy Mountain fire south of Keremeos is now 6,155 hectares (61.5 square kilometres) in size.

B.C. Wildfire Service spokespersonRyan Turcotsaid temperatures are expected to continue dropping this week, but that could be something of a"doubled-edged sword" for firefighters.

"Itmeans we'll see cooler conditions, whichis always good for wildfire activity, but we're expecting to see widespread lightning again across most areas of the province, and as well with this instability we might see more aggressive winds," he said.
