Kamloops RCMP are working with the B.C. Coroners Service to identify a man found in the Thompson River Wednesday evening.

Corporal Crystal Evelyn says a man'sbody was recovered from the shoreline near McArthur Island Park shortly after police were called to the area around 5:45 p.m.

"Somebody saw something in the water that they suspected could be a deceased person, and we responded. Right now, we're still working to confirm the identity of the deceased person. I don't want to speculate on who it could be, but that is part of the investigation."

Evelyn said police are alsoinvestigating the disappearance of a man after his boat capsized in the same waters near the Overlanders Bridge the morning of Sept. 3.

That man, believed to be in his 40s, was not wearing a life jacket. A secondman, who was wearing a life jacket, was safely pulled to shore by members of Kamloops Fire Rescue.

Police have not released their names.

The search also continues for a 50-year-old man from Red Deer, Alberta, who likely drowned in July.

Stan Cappis was swept away after he and a friend jumped into the North Thompson River, which intersects with the Thompson River in Kamloops, to rescue two young people caught by a fast-moving current.

Everyone else made it safely to shore that day.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the body recovered Wednesday evening to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-30277.
