A two-and-a-half-year-old boy was caught in a pepper spray attack in a Surrey, B.C., park when his father was assaulted in an apparent act of road rage from a passing car.

A two-and-a-half-year-old boy was caught in a pepper spray attack in a Surrey, B.C., park Monday, when his father was assaulted in an apparent act of road rage from a passing car.

Two-year-old Dayton Barratt was playing at a Surrey park with his parents, when some men pepper-sprayed his dad in the face. Some of the pepper spray ended up in Dayton's face. (CBC)

Dayton was out playing with his parentsin a park near125th Street and 77thAvenue,when a black Range Rover went speeding past.

According to police, Dayton's fathershouted at the driverto slow down.There was then an exchange of words and the vehicle took off,but came back a few minutes later.

Someone in the back seat then allegedly pepper-sprayed Dayton's fatherin the face.

Dayton's mother, Sara Barratt, says the two-year-old ended up breathing some of the chemical residue.

"His whole face was swollen to the point where, I would say, his face was twice the normal size.And he was screaming," she said.

Christine Powley'sfour-year-old son, who suffers fromasthma,and another child were also playing at the park at the time.

"He could have been put in the hospital last night. If he got in actual contact with the spray,he could have been in hospital with extreme breathing problems.That was the scariest part," saidPowley.

All the victims weretreated on scene. No one was injured in the attack.

Police say they are now looking for theblack Range Rover andthree youngmen believed to be the occupants.
