1 dead, 2 critically injured after crash on Burnaby, B.C., highway

One person was killed and four others were injured two in critical condition after an early morning crash in Burnaby, B.C., on Sunday morning.

Crash closed Highway 1 at Sprott Street for much of Sunday morning, impairment not believed to be factor

RCMP say one person was killed and twoothers were critically injured after an early morning crash in Burnaby, B.C., on Sunday morning.

Burnaby RCMP said in a statement that they first received reports of a crash just before 3:45 a.m. PT Sunday at Highway 1near the Sprott Street off-ramp.

According to police, a vehicle travelling eastbound had pulled over and stopped at the side of the highway, where it was struck by an eastboundSUV.

One woman in the parked vehicle was found dead by emergency responders, and three other passengerswere taken to hospital. Two of them are in critical condition, according to the police statement.

"The driver of the second vehicle was released from the scene with minor injuries," read the Burnaby RCMP statement."Impairment is not believed to be a factor in the collision."

Police say they're still looking for witnesses in the early morning crash. Photos of the area show significant damage to two vehicleswith debris strewn on the highway.

"We send our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of everyone involved," said Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj. "This is a tragedy that will affect so many."
