Burnaby RCMP shoot and kill suspect in fatal stabbing

Two men are dead after Burnaby RCMP shot and killed the suspect in a fatal stabbing at 6116 14 Avenue early Sunday.

Two men are dead after Burnaby RCMP shot and killed the suspect in a fatal stabbing at 6116 14 Avenue early Sunday.

Police responding to reports of a double stabbing at that location said they found themselves confronting the suspect around 5:50 a.m. PT.

"Upon arrival, police officers engaged the alleged suspect and shots were fired resulting in injuries to the suspect," RCMPsaid in a statement.

That statement saidthe suspect sustained what police initially believed were "non-life threatening injuries." However he has since died in hospital.

The victim of the stabbing, who was also taken to hospital, died as well.

Burnaby RCMP continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stabbing.

The Independent Investigations Office [IIO] is investigating the fatal police-involved shooting.

The IIO provides civilian oversight into serious police incidents.
