Cameraman bear sprayed while filming Abbotsford homeless camp

A freelance cameraman is recovering after being bear sprayed near a homeless camp in Abbotsford, B.C.

Kevin Macdonald was filming across the street from the controversial homeless camp Wednesday, when a woman holding a cannister of bear spray approached him, complaining that he was filming without permission.

The Abbotsford Police Department confirmed Thursday that 39-year-old Christina Bentley was arrested shortly after the incident, and has since been charged with assault with a weapon.

Macdonalduploaded a video of the incident to YouTube.

Macdonald can be heard on camera responding that there is nothing unlawful about filming in a public place, but the woman continued to berate him for not asking permission.

At one point, the woman said, "Don't touch me," and threatened Macdonald with the spray.

As she turned to walk away, the woman sprayed Macdonald with the bear mace, leaving him crying out in pain.

He tweeted a picture of himself after the attack.
