The woman charged with being impaired when her car hit and killed a four-year-old Delta girl will hear a verdict in her case July 27.

B.C. provincial court Judge Peder Gulbransen announced the date after hearing closing arguments Thursday in the case of Carol Berner.

Berner, 58,pleaded not guilty to charges of impaired driving causing death, dangerous driving causing death, impaired driving causing bodily harm and dangerous driving causing bodily harm in the May 2008 accident.

Bernerwas driving a car that left a rural road in Ladner, south of Vancouver, hitting Alexa Middelaer and her aunt, Daphne Johnson. The pair had been standing outside a farm fence at the roadside, feeding a horse.

Middelaer died later in hospital, while Johnson spent a month in hospital with serious injuries.

The four-week trial in Surrey heard evidence from several Crown witnesses, while the defence argued much of its case in cross-examination and called no witnesses.

Gulbransen heard the case without a jury.
