Charges laid in deadly Granville Island collision

Cory Papp is facing several charges, including impaired driving and dangerous driving causing death, following a 2017 pedestrian accident on West Fourth Avenue that killed an elderly man and injured two teens.

A man is facing impaired driving and dangerous driving causing death charges following a fatal accident at the entrance to GranvilleIsland in 2017.

On Sunday May 28, 2017, an elderly man and two teenaged boys were struck by a vehicle travelling west on Fourth Avenue at Anderson Street. They were crossing the intersection around 5:30 p.m. in a crosswalk when they were hit.

The elderly man, David Wong, later died in hospital.

In June, more than a year later, Cory Andrew Pappwas charged with:

  • Impaired driving causing bodily harm.
  • Impaired driving causing death.
  • Dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
  • Dangerous driving causing death.
  • Causingan accident resulting in bodily harm.
  • And causingan accident resulting in death.

Papp, who was born in 1995, is expected in B.C. Provincial Court on August 16.

In 2009, a couple was killed at the same intersection in a hit and run.

In July 2016, an international student was killed on GranvilleIsland after a SUV crashed into a store.
