Comedian Cathy Jones's one-woman show comes to Vancouver

Comedian Cathy Jones is in Vancouver to performher one-woman show, Stranger to Hard Work.

The writer, actress and This Hour Has 22 Minutes star mined her personal life for material for the show.

"It turned out to be a story about what happens in my life day-to-day," she said, adding "it's about my discomfort with the world and normal social interaction and how it makes me go, 'oh God, I guess I'm really different."

This is Jones's third one-woman show, and she's excited for the one-on-one interaction with the audience.

"I like the direct communication with the audience.I really like that feedback. It's a very interesting kind of journey, a sort of spiritual journey," she said.

Jones will be returning to her best-known role as correspondent on 22 Minutes this season, but she's also working on a new book and a potential reality television show about her life.

All of her work is rooted in her philosophy of looking for the humorous side of things.

"Things are funny.Even things that are happening to me in the moment, I can see that I'm going to be able to make jokes about it," she explained.

A great sense of humour depends on taking responsibility for one's actions, she said.

"Obviously, we're the fool," she laughed.

Jones's show Stranger to Hard Work takes place at the Firehall Arts Centre, from Sept. 28 to Oct. 8 at various show times.
