CBC Musical Nooners July 21: Haya

Haya bring sounds from Mongolia that are both traditional and modern, thundering and melodic.

Hayawill be bringing their eclectic combination of traditional Mongolian and modern sounds to the CBC Musical Noonersstage this Tuesday.

Haya which means "margin" or "boundary" is made up of six members from Mongolia, the Philippines and Switzerland.

They capture the spirit of ethnic Mongolian music throughthroat singing (khoomei)and instruments such as the horse-head fiddle (morin khuur), the long-necked lute (tanbur) and the shaman drum, and round out their sound with modern acoustic and bass guitars.

Since their first album Wolf Totem, theyadded vocalist Daiqing Tana, whose soaring vocals have been a feature of their subsequent albums.
