Missing B.C. woman confirmed dead in apparent homicide

A 22-year-old woman who went missing last month has been found dead in Mission, and police are treating her death as a homicide.

A 22-year-old woman who went missing last month has been found dead in Mission, and police are treating her death as a homicide.

The body of Abbotsford resident Chelsey Gauthier was discovered on Aug. 16 near Sylvester Road and Dale Road, but it took until Thursday for police to confirm her identity.

Forensic investigators have not revealed the cause of deathbut say the evidence is consistent with a homicide.

"From the evidence collected so far, investigators believe that Miss Gauthier's death was not random," Cpl. Frank Jang of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said in a news release.

"Investigators would like to speak with anyone who knew Miss Gauthier or saw her around the time of her disappearance."

Gauthier was last seen in Abbotsford on the morning of July 27.

Police are asking anyone with information about her death to call IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
