A Prince George, B.C. group is trying to persuade the city to allow chickens inside city limits.

Laura Lawrence withPoultry for PG wantsto have hens hatching in her backyard andsays she's getting support from a lot of people in the community even those who don't want chickens.

"It was really actually encouraging to see that even though they didn't think it would affect them personally, they think the citizens of Prince George should have that right."

But Dave Bakkerwith Northern Bear Awarenessworries easing the restrictions could bring on bear problems.

"The aspect or what's involved with caring for chickens could play a major attractant," said Bakker.

"I mean, you throw feed on the ground to feed your chickens. And what about that left over seed?"

The city will look into whether to allow backyard chickens at its regular meeting next week.
