Child falls from second-floor balcony in Surrey

A four-year-old child who fell from a second-floorbalcony of a building in Surrey, B.C. was not seriously harmed.

According to Surrey RCMP, the child climbed onto a chair and ontop ofthe balcony railing on Thursday around 3:30 p.m. A neighbour saw himfall approximately three meters to the soft ground, and took him back inside to his family.

Emergency responders rushed the child from the building in the14900 block of105thAvenue to a hospital as a precaution, even though police say he waswas not displaying any signs of injury.

Surrey police are warning families to be cautiousabout leaving windows and patio doors open, especially during warmer weather.

"This offers a very inviting situation to young children," Surrey police say. "Young children do not understand the consequences of the injuries that could occur with these type of falls."
