It has been a very challenging year for Indigenous communities in B.C.. Learning more about unmarked graves on the grounds of former residential schools has hearts aching across the province, country and around the world.

And it's time we take a pause.

September 30 marks the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to recognize and reflect on the legacy of residential schools in Canada.

Commemorate the occasion with all-day special programming showcasing First Nations, Mtis and Inuit perspectives and experiences on CBC TV, CBC Gem, CBC Radio One and cbc.ca/bc.

5:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m: Join CBC Vancouver's award-winning reporter Angela Sterritt for a day ofhealing, reflection and reclamationas she guest hosts a special, provincewide edition of The Early Edition. Tune in for conversations with residential school survivors, activists, youth and community leaders about the meaning of this day and the journey to come, including a special interview with Phyllis Webstad - the inspiration behind Orange Shirt Day.

12:00 p.m.: Tune in for a one-hour special hosted by CBC's Rosanna Deerchild that explores how Canada is doing on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's calls to action and how First Nations across Canada are demolishing, redeveloping, and reclaiming former residential school sites.

8:00 p.m.: Join JUNO Award-winning artist Elisapie for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation: a unique one-hour, commercial-free special that honours the stories and perspectives of Indigenous Peoples affected by the tragedies of the residential school system in Canada, with musical tributes and ceremonies in Indigenous communities across the land

9:00 p.m.: After the special, stay glued to the screen for We Know the Truth: Stories to Inspire Reconciliation: a new CBC Manitoba documentary that recasts Canada's history and future through the empowerment of Indigenous Peoples.
