Conservation officers seek tips after black bear shot in Squamish

B.C.'s Conservation Officer Service is investigating after a 400 pound black bear was found lying dead on the front lawn of a residentialproperty in the GaribaldiHighlands of Squamish.

The service confirms that it believes someone illegally shot the bear sometime between 12:30 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. PT on April 20 and the animal travelled up to300 metres before it collapsed and died.

The bear was discovered around 5 a.m. and the service says it believes someone was deliberately targeting it.

While the bullet that killed the bear has been retrieved, conservation officers are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call theMinistry of Environment's Report All Poachers and Polluters or RAPP line.
