Coquitlam crash kills 1 person, injures 2 others

Northbound and southbound lanes on Schoolhouse Street between Booth Avenue and Lucille Starr Way will be closed as police gather evidence at the scene.

Police called to crash on Schoolhouse Street near Lucille Starr Way on Thursday evening

One person was killed in a two-vehicle collision near the Maillardville neighbourhood of Coquitlam on Thursday evening, RCMP said.

Police said they were called to a crash between an SUV and a sedanon Schoolhouse Street near Lucille Starr Way at 7:20 p.m. PT.

"What appears to have happened was a vehicle was driving southbound on Schoolhouse, and another vehicle was pulling out of a parking lotand was struck by the vehicle that was on Schoolhouse," said RCMP Sgt. Quentin Frewing.

The driver of the vehicleleaving the parking lot died on scene, while a passenger in the vehicle suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle also suffered seriousbut non-life threatening injuries.

Northbound and southbound lanes on Schoolhouse Street between Booth Avenue and Lucille Starr Way wereclosed overnightwhile crash investigatorsprocessed evidence.

Frewing says it's too early to tell whether speed or impairment were factors in the collision.

Anyone who witnessed or has dashcamvideo of the crash who hasn't yet spoken with police is asked to contact Coquitlam RCMP.
