Coquitlam police appeal for help in nabbing car vandals

Police are appealing for help in locating vandals who damaged as many as 100 cars in suburban Vancouver by gouging the paint with keys or some other sharp instrument.

Police are appealing for help in locating vandals who may have damaged as many as 100 cars in suburban Vancouver by gouging the paint with keys or some other sharp instrument.

Coquitlam resident Remi Boileau says he has no idea what provoked someone to vandalize as many as 100 cars. ((CBC) )

Coquitlam RCMP confirm it's the second such incident in that area within a month.

Sometime on March 22 or early on Easter Sunday cars were keyed in a large residential triangle between Austin Avenue, Mundy Street and Mariner Way, police said.

Cpl. Jane Baptista said RCMP also received reports of cars being vandalized at a golf course, a skating rink and in a restaurant parking lot.

The incidents come just two weeks after nearly 300 vehicles were keyed in the parking lot of a Coquitlam movie theatre.

Baptista said no suspects have been identified and it's uncertain if the two incidents are linked.

However, police say they need help from anyone who may have witnessed cars in the Coquitlam area being scratched.
