Coquitlam RCMP officer charged with drunk driving

A B.C. RCMP officer has been charged with impaired driving after being stopped by members of his own detachment on his way from the Boulevard Casino in Coquitlam early Friday morning.

Police at the Coquitlam RCMP detachmentreceived a callshortly before 3 a.m. PT about an impaired driver whohad just left the casino, located east of Vancouver,according to Cpl. Annie Linteau.

When they stopped the vehicle, they discovered the driver was a fellow officer. He was taken to the Coquitlam detachment, where he blew over the legal alcohollimit on a breathalyzer.

The officer was released from custody on a promise to appearin a Port Coquitlam courton Jan. 10, 2010.

The name of the officer has not been released, but police did say he has been moved to administrative duties pending the completion of the criminal investigation and a parallel internal investigation.
