1 dead after collision with train sends truck crashing into SUV in Maple Ridge, B.C.

One person is dead after a chain-reaction crash involving a train, a flat-bed truck and an SUVin Maple Ridge, B.C., on Thursday.

One person is dead after a chain-reaction crash involving a train, a flat-bed truck and an SUVin Maple Ridge, B.C., on Thursday.

The collision happened around 5:45 p.m. PT on the tracks near 272nd Street and Lougheed Highway, just north of the Fraser River's edge.

RCMP said the truck was trying to cross the train tracks when the eastbound train hit the back-end of the trailer.

The impact sent the truck into an SUV"that was attempting to cross the tracks in the opposite direction," a statement said.

The driver of the SUV was trapped. First responders tried to free the woman, but RCMP said she died at the scene.

The RCMP's serious crime unit was called in to help Integrated Collision Analysis Reconstruction Serviceswith the case, according to the statement. The B.C. Coroners Service is also investigating.

Anyone who saw the collision or who hasdashcamfootage is asked to callRidge Meadows RCMP at 604-463-6251.

The Canadian Pacific Police Service confirmed the collision, but offered no additional details aside from the date, time and location of the crash.
