The ski hill said its snowmaking guns have been making "huge volumes of snow" since Monday and will continue to do so overnight until it opens the Easy Rider and Eagle Express chairliftat 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

The snowmaking guns will then move towards other parts of the mountain and be fully operational by Thursday morning.

"This is officially the most snow we've ever made in March already, including 2010," said the ski hill in an email.

That was the year when mild weather and rain cancelled Olympic snowboard cross competitionsat Cypress Mountain with thousands of fans, including some from as far away as Tennessee who had come to watch the event.

Cypress Mountain said Tuesday its snow schoolwill remain on standby until it re-opens more beginner terrain.
