Police watchdog called after woman found deceased in Oak Bay, B.C.

Oak Bay police say its officers may have talked to the victim the Friday night before she was discovered Saturday morning around 9:30 a.m. PT near Bowker Creek and Bee Street in Victoria.

British Columbia's police watchdog is investigating after a woman was found dead in the area of Bowker Creek near Bee Street in the Victoria suburbof Oak Bay Saturday morning.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C., is a civilian-led body that examinesofficer-related incidents where a person is killed or seriously harmed.

Oak Bay Police says it does not suspect foul play in the death of the woman. She was found around 9:30 a.m. PT on Saturday.

The force says the IIO was contacted because it believes officers may have interacted with the victim on Friday night.

The BC Coroners Service is also investigating but has not yet named the victim, who is described by police as an adult female.

Meanwhile, the area of Bee Street between Cadboro Bay Road and the Oak Bay Recreation Centre will be closed to pedestrians and vehicles at least until 6 p.m. PT Saturday.
