Surrey firefighter among 3 killed in 2 separate Lower Mainland car accidents

Three people have been killed in two separate car accidents in the Lower Mainland Sunday morning.

Firefighter killed in crash between vehicle and semi-trailer on Highway 10

Three people were killed in two separate car accidents in the Lower Mainland Sunday morning.

In Delta, oneperson waskilled in an accident on Highway 10 at 8:46 a.m. PT, police said.

Surreyassistant fire chiefChrisKeonconfirmed that the victimwas a Surrey firefighter. Keon said firefighters are not releasing his name or any further details out of respect for the family and his coworkers.

Delta policesaid they believe thevictim, who was the driver andsole occupant of Jeep, wason Ladner Trunk Road when he went off the roadway to the right and struck asemi-trailerthat was parked off the highway.

Police spokeswoman Sharlene Brooks said it's too early to say what may have contributed to the crash.

Officers say a stretch of Highway 10 between exits 110 and 112 will remain closed for several hours as officers investigate.

In Surrey, two drivers were also killed after a head-on collision.

Police say the crash happened on King George Boulevard near 81stAvenue around 7.30 a.m. PT. Traffic was closed in both directions between 80th and 82ndavenues for some of the day.

The drivers of the cars were killed at the scene, police said. Neither car was carrying a passenger.

Police have interviewed witnesses, but the cause of the crash is unknown.
