Vancouver senior killed in Oakridge collision, speed is a factor

A Vancouverman has died after atwo-carcrash in the Oakridge areaSaturday morning,and police suspect "excessive speed" is a factor in the death.

The unidentified 68-year-old man died after being transported to hospital, police said.

The collision happened around 9 a.m. PT when the senior,driving ared Suzuki, was makingaleft turn onto 41st St from Oak St.

Police say his car was hit by a grey Audi heading north on Oak St., that may have been going too fast.

The 34-year-olddriver of the Audi from Richmondwas taken to hospital and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

"Having to tell someone their husband, wife, father, mother, brother, sister, son or daughter has been killed in a crash is a horrific job police are doing far too often," said Vancouver PoliceConst.Brian Montague. "I can't imagine what it is like for the person who has to receive that knock at the door from our officers."
