A home in South Surrey has been destroyed in an early morning fire.

Surrey Firefighters were called to the house near 174A Street and 28 Avenue around 5:30 a.m. PT Saturday. Battalion Chief Ed Wells said the home was engulfed in flames when crews arrived.

"It was a strictly defensive exterior attack," he said."It was through the roof and the walls were already coming in when crews arrived. It was in a bit of a rural area so it appears it was going for quite awhile."

Wells said the house was not occupied and no one was hurt.
