Police investigate 2 fatal collisions within 24 hours in Richmond
Collisions more frequent this time of year, as fall and winter weather affects drivers' perceptions: RCMP
Richmond RCMPare investigating two separate fatal collisions that occurred within a 24 hour period and are asking for any witnesses or people with dashcam footage to come forward.
At around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, police said they were called to a crashnear the intersection of No.4 Road and Westminster Highway involving a blue Kenworth truck hauling live fish and a white BMW.
One person died in the collision, according to a written statement from RCMP, while three others are in hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police said one man was ejected from his vehicle and there were live fish spilled all over the area after the collision.
Police are asking drivers to plan an alternative route and avoid the intersection of No.4 Road and Westminster Highway as it will likely be closed for most of Tuesday.
A second crash in RichmondMonday between a Honda CRV and school bus on Alderbridge Way and No.3 Road killed the driver of agrey Honda CRVwho was pronounced dead at the scene.
The school bus driver was uninjured andremained onsite.
Fortunately, there were no children on board the bus at the time of the collision, police said.
"These very serious collisions serve as a reminder to all drivers.Vehicle collisions occur with more frequency this time of year, as fall and winter weather begin to affect drivers' perceptions," Cpl.Ian Henderson said in a statement.
