Gingerbread home ad for $4.5 million strikes a nerve in Vancouver

It's commonly accepted fact that buying a home in Vancouver's tough real estate market is a hair-pulling challenge.

Sky-high prices often accompany small homes that need repairs and many just feel priced out of the homes they would actually want.

That's why Ari Ron's craiglist ad for a gingerbreadhome selling for $4.5 millionstruck a nerve with many Vancouverites who are fed up with the real estate market.

"It's very cute and small and it reminds me of something: the Vancouver housing market ... this tiny, old-looking home that maybe you would buy on a small lot for development purposes for an outrageous price," he said.

It took Ron about an hour to build the gingerbread home. The ad promises a1 foot by 9 inchesbungalow without water hookupon Vancouver's west side. It also has a landscaped garden and a parking spot.

Ron said he has received several mock inquiries, such as one who said their final best offer was $1.5 million.

"Better price per square foot than most of the downtown closets," said one commenter on Reddit.

If someone does actually buy the gingerbread house for any price Ron says he'll donate the money to charity.
