Sexual interference reported at Surrey, B.C., aquatic centre

RCMP say they are investigating a report of sexual interference at a Surrey, B.C., aquatic centre on Saturday.

RCMP say they are investigating a report of sexual interference at a Surrey, B.C., aquatic centre on Saturday.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Surrey RCMPsay a preliminary investigation indicatesa 21-year-old man allegedly kissed a female teenager at the Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre.

RCMP said that they were called to the centre just past 7 p.m. PT on Saturday.

They said they arrested the man at the scene, and he was released on conditions to not attendthe centre or contact the victim.

An RCMP spokesperson said the age of the teenager would not be disclosed in order to protect herprivacy.

The charge of sexual interference isan age-specific charge that, according to the Criminal Code, involves touching a person under the age of 16 for a sexual purpose. Police have not yet confirmed a charge in the case.

In a statement, a City of Surrey spokesperson said the safety and well-being of individuals at its civic facilities is a top priority.

"City staff contacted the police in response to the incident at Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre and the City has fully co-operated with the investigation," the spokesperson said.
