Police appeal for info about fight 'fuelled by alcohol' that killed Granville Street worker

Kalwinder Thind was a worker who was killed trying to break up a fight at Cabana Lounge on Vancouver's Granville Street early Saturday morning. Police say edited photos and footage of the fight have been uploaded to social media.

Vancouver police are appealing to the public for information including cell phone photos and video about the death of Granville Street nightclub workerKalwinder Thind.

Police say Thind was stabbednear theCabana Lounge on Vancouver'sGranvilleStreet early Saturday morning breaking up what they are calling a fight"fuelledby alcohol."

Vancouver Police Department spokespersonJasonRobillardsaid Mondaythe fight was between two groups aftertensionbetween them escalated throughout the night.

Robillardsaid the fight appears to be an isolated incident.

"It appears right now that this was just analcohol-fuelledfight that simply got out of hand," he said.

Robillard said investigators want to see more footage of the fight.

"The evidence suggests that several people have photos and recordings of the events before, during and after this incident," hesaid. "They have uploaded edited footage to various social media sites, but have yet to come forward to police."

He said no charges have been laid although five people were arrested and subsequently released.

Clarifications

  • Friends have told CBC that while Thind worked at another Granville Street establishment as a bouncer, he was working at Cabana as a promoter.
