Grouse, Cypress and Seymour ski hills drenched by Pineapple Express

Conditions on Vancouver's North Shore ski hills Grouse, Cypress and Seymour areabout to get worse, as another Pineapple Express storm is forecast to bring balmy temperatures and heavy rain Friday.

So much rain has fallen, that at one point early in the day,Cypress Mountain'swebsite informedskiers "we may encounter ponding of water" on the slopes.

The mountain's crosscountry ski trails are alreadyclosed because of the rain.

Self-guided snowshoe trails are shut, while officials say willassessthe ability to run group snowshoe programs.

Meanwhile, the downhill skiing and snowboarding area willopen only until 3 p.m. PT due to the continued rain.

In the seven days since Jan. 16 only one centimetre of snow has fallen on local mountains and theinclement weather hasMt. Seymour on standby.

All lessons for Friday have been cancelled and mountainstaff say they will contact registrants to reschedule.

It's a similar situation on Grouse Mountain - anotice on the resort website says "due to inclement weather, the downhill area will be on standby as of 3 p.m."

Even in Whistler, rain is forecast, not only in Whistler village, but alsoat thealpine region through Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures expected to remain unseasonably warm.
