Grouse Mountain stabbing charges stayed

North Vancouver RCMP havereleased and stayed charges against a man arrested following a stabbing incident on Grouse Mountain last week.

In a statement issued today, Cpl. Richard De Jong said that "as a result of an in-depth investigation, further information was received, leading to a stay of charges."

He went on to say that "police continue to place a high priority in locating the suspect" and that all leads are being investigated.

The announcement comes one day after North Vancouver RCMP said they had arrested the26-year-old man without incident in his home.

The stabbing happened on the evening of Nov. 5, when a 59-year-old Vancouver man was attacked without provocation while crossing paths with a stranger on the B.C. Mountaineering Club trail, which runs adjacent to the Grouse Grind.

The attacker fled, and the victim made his way down the trail until he came across a group of hikers who provided first aid and contacted police.

The victim was transferred to Lions Gate Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
