Abbotsford teacher faces sex assault, exploitation charges

Police say a 50-year-old teacher in Abbotsford is facing sexual assault and exploitation charges.

The Abbotsford Police Department saysHenry Kang, a resident of the city, has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of sexual exploitation.

Police say he taught at Robert Bateman and W.J. Mouatsecondary schools.

The APD saidit launched an investigation into an allegation of sexual assault in January after it received a complaint about Kangthat was made to the Abbotsford School District.

The district said in a news release that Kangwas placed on leave pending the completion of the investigation.

"We are deeply concerned about these allegations, and will continue to cooperate with the Abbotsford Police Department and Crown as this matter is investigated," it said in astatement from Superintendent Kevin Godden

Other victims

In a news release,police said there are so far two victimswhowere youths at the time of the incidents.Police are asking other victims to come forward.

Meanwhile the district saysthe safety of students is its top priority.

"Every day we commit to providing safe and caring learning environments for all of our students, and we will continue to ensure that this is the case in all of our schools."

Kangis expected to appear incourt in June.
