3 confirmed dead in fatal head-on crash on Highway 1 between Golden and Field, B.C.

Mounties say threepeople were killed Sunday after two semi-trailers collided on Highway 1 east of Golden, B.C.

RCMP saidpolice and paramedics responded to a crash on Highway 1 at the Yoho National Park west gate, about 35 kilometres east of Golden, near the Alberta border, around 6:50 a.m. MT.

A statement said emergency responders found the occupants of two semi-trailersdead at the scene of the crash.

Late Monday, RCMP confirmed that three people died in the collision two in acattle truck and anotherin alogging truck.

Families later confirmed two of the victims wereJagsir Gilland Brandon Johnson.

Gill was a father-of-two from Calgary.

"He was probably the most soft-spoken, gentle soul you'll ever meet," said Amandeep Gill, Jagsir's cousin.

"And he adored his family,"added another cousin, Navdeep Gill."Anymoment he got to spend time with his family, he always spent that time with them."

Johnson's family confirmed his death withCBC News but declined an interview. Johnson was from Chilliwack, B.C.

Investigators said it appears that one of the trucks drove into oncoming trafficand caused a head-on collision.

The cattle truck, carrying at least 24 animals, was heading back from the Western Canadian Classic competition in Manitoba. Several cattlewere killed.

A forensic team wasat the scene of the crash on Monday, according to Robinson.

Highway 1 closure

As a result of the crash, Highway 1 was closed between Golden and Field for most of Sunday while motorists wereasked to take an alternativeroute via Highway 95 and 93.

It temporarily reopened atabout 7p.m. on Monday.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding thecollision, including any dashboard camera video, to contact the RCMPat 250-344-2221.
