Driver dead after crash between transport truck and SUV on Hwy 97 in West Kelowna

RCMP say it appears the truck pulling a semi-trailer crashed into awhiteHyundai Tucson from behind minutes before 2 a.m.

Collision happened in early morning hours

A man is dead after a crash between at truck pulling asemi-trailerand an SUV in West Kelowna, B.C., early Friday.

RCMP said it appears the semi crashed into a whiteHyundai Tucson on Highway 97 between Bartley Road and Daimler Road just before 2 a.m. PT.

The driver ofthe SUVwas pronounced dead at the scene. His lone passenger was taken to hospital incritical condition.

RCMP said the driver was working for a local designated-driving service at the time of the crash. The man has been identified, but his name isn't being released as his next of kin haven't been notified.

A statement said the truck driver stayed at the scene and is co-operating with RCMP.

Highway 97 was closed for about six hours asRCMP collision specialists investigated the crash. The road re-opened just before 8 a.m. PT.
