A stretch of Lougheed Highway closed Friday as WorkSafeBC investigate an incident involving a crane, RCMP say.

A stretch of Lougheed Highway has been closed in both directions as WorkSafeBC investigates an incident involving a crane, RCMP say.

Lougheed Highway between Gilmore Avenue and Madison Avenue is expected to be closed for several hours anddrivers are asked to find alternate routes,Burnaby RCMP said Friday afternoon.

In a statement, WorkSafeBC, a provincial agency thatpromotes workplace safetyacross the province,confirmed it is investigating an incident that happened on Thursday night involving a crane at a site nearLougheed Highway in Burnaby.

WorkSafeBC officers attended the scene and issued orders to stop the use ofa tower crane and another piece of machinery, on Thursday night.They also issued astop-work order to keep the road closure in place.

The RCMP will provide an update on social media when the highway reopens.
