Wreckage of plane discovered near Kamloops, B.C.: RCMP

Update, Nov. 17, 2023: A search and rescue group, Civil Air Search and Rescue Association, saidit intentionally placed the wrecked plane part on the mountainside about two years ago, with the help of a trailer, and that it uses the site for training.

The empty fuselage of a plane believed to be at least 20 years old has been found near Kamloops, B.C.

RCMP say a hunter made the discovery in the remote area near Knouff and Community Lakes, north of Kamloops, on Nov. 3.

The Transportation Safety Board says in a statement that it was made aware of the wreck and investigators have been in contact with Kamloops RCMP.

It says it hasn't identified which aircraft was involved in the crash.

A notice on the Civil Aviation Daily Occurrence Reporting System (CADORS)says a hunter reached out to the Kamloops flight information centre after finding the downed aircraft.

The notice says RCMP responded and verified the wreckage was at least 20 to 25 years old.

It says there was no registration or other identifying marks visible on the wreck.

The CADORS report also notes the plane was not amateur-built.

Cpl. James Grandy with the B.C. Mounties' Southeast District said the wreck was first reported to police Nov. 3.

The wreckage, he said, was limited to a plane fuselage: he said no wings, seats, engine or propeller were found and the wreck appeared to have been stripped.

Grandy said police did not find any human remains at the wreck site and the circumstances do notmatch with any missing persons file they have.

The B.C. Coroners Service confirmed it is not investigating the incident.
