Hudson Brooks' family wants answers on the two-year anniversary of his death

Family and friends of Hudson Brooks, a20-year-old man from Surrey who was shot dead by police,are marking the second anniversary of his death with a mixture of grief and frustration.

Police got a 911 call in the early morning hours of July 18, 2015, when Brooks appeared to be in distress as he walked along 152 Street near 18 Avenue.

A short while later, Brooks was shot and killed by an RCMPofficer. His family has been digging for answers ever since.

Through conversations with the Independent Investigations Office, and an online posting of an apparent audio recordingfrom the moment Brooks was shot, they have pieced together their own timeline of events.

"We know exactly what happened to Hudson," said his mother, Jennifer Brooks.

"We know he was unarmed."

In October, the IIO wrapped up its 15-month investigation into the shooting.

A report was sent to the Crown's office to decide whether charges will be laid in the case.

Jennifer Brooks says she's tired of waiting to find out whether that will happen.

"It's heartbreaking that we're at the two year mark without any charges from Crown," she said.

"So, after two years, they have now had Hudson's case for nine months. There is nothing? I'm sure they're working on this but what's the holdup?"

The family held a demonstration at the South Surrey RCMP detachment Tuesday night to voice their frustration.
