Three months after20-year-old Hudson Brook was shot and killed by SurreyRCMP,his family says they are still waiting for answers.
"I will never give up on our fight for justice for Hudson," said his mother Jennifer Brookson Sunday as the family held a rally in Surrey for the slain man.
"This is not okay, this is not okay. They walked away like this didn't matter. Our son's life mattered. It mattered for many of us and this is not okay."
- Family describes Hudson Brooks as "joy"
- Only police weapons recovered in shooting
- South Surrey RCMP detachment shooting
Brooks was gunned down outside the South Surrey RCMP detachment in July, 2015.
B.C.'s Independent Investigations Office IIOBC continues to look intothe incident.
Neither the IIO, nor the RCMP has revealed what happened in the moments leading up to the shooting, and why, or how a weapon was drawn.
But the IIO has said that a female officer suffered a gunshot woundto the leg during an altercation, after responding to reports of a suicidal man.
According to the IIO only one weapon was retrieved from the scene.
No history of mental illness
Brook's brother Beaudry is adamant Hudson had no problems with mental illness.
"And even if he did, never, never should [it]have happened," he said. "If someone has a mental health issue, which my brother did not, you help them, you don't shoot them five or seven times."
The IIOsays it continues to gather information on the case and will send the gun that was fired for forensic analysis.
However, it admits, itcould take months before the Brooks family finds out more information due to a back-log of cases.
Meanwhile Jennifer Brooks says she will continue to demand answers.
"I'll never let this go," she said. "Do they think we will wait for a year from now until they let me know? Do they think it's just going to fade away, we aren't going to fade away."
