The Integrated Homicide Investigation team has confirmed that they are investigating the death of a man in Surrey on Saturday morning.

Police were called to the 9100 block of 147aStreet after receiving reports of a fight outside of a residence known for hosting after-hours parties.

According to IHIT spokesperson Sgt. Jennifer Pound, two men were taken to hospital, where one was pronounced dead. The other remains in critical condition.

"Inside the residence were about 30 to 50 people. When the assault occurred, many of those individuals fled the scene, including three to five that were described to be suspects in that case," Pound said.

A woman who claims to have witnessed the murder told CBC News that the man was beaten to death, but police have not confirmed any details.

IHIT says they will be at the scene well into the day tomorrow, and are calling on anyone with information to contact police immediately.

Earlier this week, the previous record of 21 homicides was topped when IHIT was called to the scene of a suspicious death in the 12000 block of 99 Avenue.

More information to come.
