James Conway, sex offender, arrested for breaching release conditions

High-risk sex offender James Conway was arrested Tuesday after allegedly violating the terms of his release from prison earlier this month by sitting next to a teenage girl on a TransLink bus.

Under the terms of his release, Conway is not allowed to be in contact with anyone under the age of 18.

The 40-year-old man had been living at a halfway house in Surrey since his release Feb 9.

Metro Vancouver Transit Police say Conway boarded a bus at Surrey Central bus loop on Tuesday and sat down on a double seat next to a teenage girl.

Last April, Conway was arrested after he was caught staring at young girls, looking down the front of their shirts and trying to engage them in conversation using a teddy bear.

He was convicted of breaching his conditions of release and sentenced to 10 months in jail and three years of probation at the time.

A public notificationof Conway's release in Surrey was sent to schoolswarning that the convicted offender has a criminal history.That history includes sexual interference with a person under 16 anda versatilepattern of sexually offending girls in a predatory and opportunistic manner.
