Justin Trudeau visits lake where brother Michel drowned

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau was in Nelson, B.C., with his family this morning to make a very private journey.

In 1998, JustinTrudeau'syounger brother Michel Trudeau was on a backcountry ski trip when he wasswept into nearby Kokanee Lake by an avalanche and drowned. The 23-year-old's body was never recovered.

This morning, Justin Trudeau planned to hike to the lake with his family.

"I hesitate to even talk to it because it is a private hike with my family. It is a walk with my family up an extraordinarily beautiful trail and it is a very personal thing," said Trudeau.

Trudeau and his family are in southern B.C. on a vacation and mini political tour, visiting communities in an RV. After the hike they plan to visit the nearby community of Trail.

Michel was the youngest son of former prime minister Pierre Trudeau and his ex-wife Margaret Kemper.
