King tide reaches Delta's Boundary Bay waterfront

Residents along Delta's waterfront braced for apowerful king tide that hit this morning, but the calm weather appeared to work in their favour.

City staff and residents have been putting out sandbags and have set up large concrete blocks in anticipation,after king tides in December 2014 combined with a storm surge forced the municipality todeclarea state of emergency.

And last year, part of the seawallon Boundary Bay collapsed and a home in Tsawwassen was evacuated when the wall in front it collapsed.

The tide reached a peak of 4.62 metres high at8:14 a.m.on Wednesday near Boundary Bay and Tsawwassen, but no damage was reported.

Similar conditions are expected on Thursday and Friday morning as well.

"We're always concerned about them, they come every year, predictably and some years we're very lucky and some years we're not so lucky. It just depends on Mother Nature," said Delta MayorLois Jackson.
