Kyle McConkey victimized by possible scam police say

Delta police are sounding the alarm after noticing what looks like a scam website purporting to raise money for a B.C. teen fighting a rare form of leukemia.

In a post toits Facebook page, Delta police saidthe mirror website appears to useimages taken from the legitimate fundraising page for Kyle McConkey, a Tsawwassen teenager waiting for specialized treatment only available in the U.S.

Just as he was ready to leave for the potentially life-saving treatment, McConkey's trip had to beput on hold due to asevere infection which he is now fighting at BC Children's Hospital.

McConkey needs to be in good health in order to participate in the U.S. study offering the treatment.

His website on YouCaring.com has raised $281,788 exceeding its $250,000 goal. The apparently fake website with a $150,000 goal raised $372 before it was shut down.

There is also an apparently phonyTwitter account, police said, which has been sending out tweets linked to the phony website.

McConkey was diagnosed with leukemia two years ago and his body has already rejected two transplants. Doctors have given him just a few weeks to live.
