Langley house fire leaves one person dead

One person is dead after a fire broke out in a Langley home around 9:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Two others were on the property at the time of the fire, but were unharmed.

Langley RCMP say one person is dead after a fire broke out in ahouse on 76B Crescentaround 9:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Fire crews arrived to find a pool house in the back of the property fully engulfed in flames.

They laterfound the body of an adult male in the house, after successfully fighting off the fire.

"At this point,we believe it'sthe tenant of the pool housean adult male tenant," said Staff Sgt. David Brownof Langley RCMP.

Brown also said two other peoplewere on the property during the fire, but they both escaped unharmed.

Deputy Fire Chief Russell Jenkins, with the Langley Fire Department, said accessing waterwas an initial challenge for fire crews, but they were able toprevent the fire from spreading to the main house on the property.

"I think our crews did a good job of saving the existing structures,"said Jenkins. "This could have been much worse than it was, as far as fire spread."

The exact cause of the fire is unknown, but police say there is nothing to suggest it was suspicious.
